Hey Juan Burritos has been known as an institution of Arcata, Humboldt County since 1982. Our fresh-mex, flavorful recipes are crafted in small batches, daily with the freshest whole ingredients. We are proud to serve our dietary restriction community members, including: vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free.
We have the best burritos in the county. Our small, focused menu has other favorites like nachos, tacos, and we offer breakfast burritos till 1PM. Don't forget our famous Sunrise Mimosas, and housemade, real fruit, raspberry lemonade. We may not have a big menu and kitchen, but we execute everything we do at the highest level without any shortcuts. This is why we know you're going to leave happy!
Our story
Matthew Pipis and Scott Henderson bought Hey Juan Burritos in May of 2018. They prevented the restaurant from going out of business, however, they have had a trial by fire journey from then till now.
After moving to Arcata, CA in 2008, Matthew attended Humboldt State University until graduating in 2012. He would frequently eat at Hey Juan burritos and was a happy customer who just so happened to have a passion for cooking, as well as, a bit of business acumen. While Scott was a cook at Mad River Brewery, they were introduced by a mutual friend and immediately became buds.
Their shared passion for cooking, and a lot of bud lights, led them to enter the 2018 Big Brothers, Big Sisters chili cook-off where they won 1st place with their famous "Netflix and Chili" chili recipe. Just months later they found out about the imminent closure of Hey Juan Burritos and quickly made an agreement with the previous owner to procure the iconic hole in the wall, burrito shop.
The famous restaurant from 1982 is kept alive as one of only a few lasting institutions in the Humboldt County community though investment, hard work, and delusional fortitude. They are proud to be able to serve their community. With 8 years of tough lessons and lots of adaptation, Hey Juan Burritos has a bright future of serving the best burritos, with high level execution. No shortcuts, no compromises, and no complacency.
